About Me

Hello, I’m John Chidgey and I’m an Electrical Engineer with over two decades of industry experience in Australia and North America. At the age of 19 I became an unrestricted Amateur (Ham) Radio operator. I have programmed in many software languages and for various consumer platforms including DOS, Palm OS, Windows and most recently iOS. I had an application in the App Store that has done okay. In the industrial automation space I’ve programmed a lot of different PLCs including Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Omron, some DCSs including Yokogawa Centum VP, Siemens PCS-7, some RTUs including SCADAPacks and Stardoms as well as HMIs and SCADA systems from Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, Yokogawa, Citect and more.

My involvement in engineering projects includes work as both client, consultant, designer, architect and integrator working as the grunt, team leader, and engineering manager. My industry experience spans pharmaceutical, food and beverage, light and heavy industrial, mining, oil and gas, water and wastewater treatment and includes hazardous area design, HAZOP and SIL/Safety studies. Also have experience in electrical design, cable sizing, earthing, lightning protection, solar, telemetry, surge protection and network design to name a few.

I’m on Linked In and Mastodon.

[My last name is pronounced: “Ch” (as in ‘cheese’) “id” (as in ‘bid’) and gey (as in the letter ‘g’ on its own)]
